Regional Tourism Organization 6
Regional Tourism Organization 6 ("RTO 6") has a mandate to attract new visitors to Tourism Zone 6, which encompasses Durham Region, York Region and the Hills of Headwaters. As part of its tourism marketing and product development strategies, it is investigating how festivals, sports tournaments and other major events can fit into its marketing and communication strategies.
Early indications are that multi-day events with unique program content and high participant levels (e.g. performers, athletes, competitors) as opposed to high spectator levels, show the best potential to bring new visitors to the region. However, RTO 6 has the flexibility to work with a wide range of partners, and does not want to overlook any promising opportunities.
The mandate of RTO 6 includes strategic marketing as well as product development. As such, it can pursue a range of options to increase tourism activity from major festivals and events, including programs designed to increase the frequency and reach of event marketing initiatives, as well as programming or content enhancement to make the event more appealing and competitive to a wider audience.
With that in mind, this survey is being sent to event organizers across the region. Event organizers interested in attracting more visitors (active participants, spectators) from outside the region should complete the survey.
From the surveys received we will select a representative sample of event organizers for further interviews or workshops to help refine our strategy.
